       Access Statement for Berry House Littlehampton Hotel

 

Introduction

 

                    Situated in the centre of Littlehampton Berry House is the perfect place to stay whether
                    you are on business or having a few days rest. The house is located on a flat
                    and easy accessed plot from a wide carriageway.
 
                    We have four bedrooms two of which are on the ground floor with wider doors.
                    The lower corridors are able to accommodate wheelchairs and Zimmer frames too.
                    The dining room is on the ground floor with wide access doorways. We offer
                    locally sourced produce as far as is possible for breakfast and will cater for
                    any dietary requirements. We look forward to welcoming you. If you have any

Pre-Arrival

     you can visit www.transportdirect.info and simply enter our postcode which is BN17 5HD and your own. 
  • The nearest railway station is Littlehampton which is about a mile away and Berry Lane is a main local bus route. 
  • The pavement leading to Berry House is paved and our driveway is shingled but easy to navigate as its level.

Car Parking and Arrival

  • There are seven parking spaces on the drive with one closest to the house reserved for The Studio only . The car park is well lit at night as is the main entrance to the guest accommodation. The main entrance door is 0.860 wide and able to accommodate a wheelchair or Zimmer frame. 
  • Both the entrance and en suite doors in the Garden room are over 0.860 in width 
  • There is ramp to the front door which is shallow in pitch 
  • Assistance with luggage is available upon request

Welcome Area

  • Guests are welcomed in the hallway, which is level throughout. 
  • Seating is available. 
  • The flooring is ceramic. 
  • The area is evenly and well lit with overhead lighting which is controlled by motion sensor. 
  • A magnifying glass, pen and pad of paper are available on request. 
  • Guests are shown the dining room and their bedroom 
  • All communal areas are well lit and the lighting is controlled by motion sensor 
  • There are 3 emergency lights and two smoke alarms in place should they be required

Bedrooms

  • The Garden room is on the ground floor and has a king size bed and
     step free level access from the front door. The other ground floor bedroom, The Studio,
     has a 50mm step into the room and two single beds.
  • On the first floor Sparkles has two single beds and Treetops has two single beds plus a sofa bed that is 4ft 6 inches wide.
  • Upstairs is reached by stairs only. 
  • Furniture can be easily removed or rearranged in ground floor rooms on request. 
  • The height of all of the beds from the top of the mattress to the floor is 650mm/25ins. Blocks to  raise the height of the bed are available on request. 
  • Rooms are bright and evenly lit. Overhead lighting is energy efficient. Bedside lamps are also in each room. An additional reading lamp is available on request 
  • All of our bedrooms offer the following: low energy lighting , good colour contrast between the  floor, walls and doors, short pile carpet, all bedding is non-feather and hypo allergenic, flat screen digital dvd/ television with remote control, subtitles, and audio description facilities.
  • All bedrooms have tea and coffee making facilities  and hairdryers. 
  • All bedrooms have their own heating systems which are controlled by thermostats within the room
  • All ensuites have their own hot water systems so you should never run out.
  • All bedrooms have a smoke alarm installed

Ensuites

  • All rooms have en-suite facilities’. Both ground floor bedroom en-suites offer the following: 
  • A small step into the shower of less than 0.075/3 inches 
  • The toilet seating heights are all 400mm/15.7ins. 
  • Shower seats and grab rails are installed in both ground floor ensuites. 
  • The wash basins heights are 800mm/31.5ins. 
  • Lever taps on the washbasins. 
  • The Studios maximum shower entrance is 0.640 or 25 inches
  • The Garden rooms maximum shower entrance is 0.670 or 26 inches
  • Sparkles maximum shower entrance is the narrowest at 0.460 or 18 inches
  • Treetops maximum shower entrance is 0.550 or 21 inches

Public Areas - Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors

 

  • All public areas, halls, stairs, landing, are well lit using motion sensor activated lighting. 
  • There is short pile carpet on the stairs and upper hall with entrance and lower hall being ceramic 
  • The lower hallway is 1.100 wide and dining room doorway is 0.860/33 inches 
  • There is a half landing in the staircase which has fourteen treads and a handrail on one side 
  • There are three emergency lights and two smoke alarms

Public Areas - Lounge

  • There is no lounge

Dining Room

  • The dining room is situated on the ground floor with step free/level entry from the hallway. 
  • The door opening to the dining room is 860mm/33.5ins wide. 
  • There is a level exit through the French doors that open into the garden. 
  • Lighting is natural daylight and overhead lighting . 
  • The flooring is ceramic. 
  • The tables are oak and all 0.750 high. The chairs all have a seating height of 0.500

Garden

  • The rear garden has a paved patio area which can be accessed from the Dining room and from The Garden room by one small step down. 
  • Tables and chairs are available on the patio. 
  • The garden area is approximately 1200 square metres and is flat and level with two powered water features 
  • There are additional seating areas to the rear as well 
  • The gardens to the front have the car parking facility and also have seated areas around the pond which is well stocked with goldfish and carp 
  • The car parking area and both gardens have good energy efficient lighting installed

Additional Information

  • We have a set of evacuation procedures – should you require it someone will come to your room and assist you with evacuation. 
  • We welcome trained assistance dogs. A water bowl is available just outside the front door for assistance dogs and can be supplied for bedrooms where necessary 
  • We have tried to ensure each door frame contrasts in colour with the surrounding wall. 
  • The nearest Shop mobility is 1 mile away in The Street in Rustington.
  • The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit and walk in NHS is 10 miles away and the nearest Doctor’s surgery is 1/4 mile away. Please let us know if you require further information about these. 
  • Free WiFi Internet access is available. 
  • We can offer a list of nearby attractions and suggested places to eat with details of their Access Statements for information, where available

Future Plans

  • We are planning a review of our website later this year to make it more accessible, your comments are welcome to assist us with this project. 
  • We will be joining the National Accessible Scheme to gain a rating for those people with limited mobility and hearing and visual impairments.
  • We have asked the local access group to visit our property and we will endeavour to make any suggested accessibility improvements where possible.
